DESCRIPTION:Downtown Dallas buildings will be lit blue the evening of April 9 to raise awareness for National Child Abuse and Prevention Month. \nDallas CASA is hosting a virtual Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Event to honor the 24 Dallas County children who died in 2020 due to abuse or neglect and recognize the Child Protective Services caseworkers who work on the frontlines of child welfare. Wear blue on Friday to show your support! \nMembers of Dallas’ Child Abuse Prevention Coalition members will speak at the virtual lunchtime event\, including Dallas CASA President and CEO Kathleen LaValle\, Hadijat Collins from FCAA Foundation\, Irish Burch from Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center\, Sophie Phillips from TexProtects and Ona Foster from Family Compass. Child Protective Services caseworkers are invited to drive through Dallas CASA’s parking lot for a free lunch donated by In-N-Out Burger. \nOn any given day\, more than 2\,000 Dallas County children live in the protective care of the state due to abuse or severe neglect. In 2020\, Dallas CASA’s 1\,527 volunteer advocates were assigned to advocate for 3\,374 children in protective care.

DESCRIPTION:In recognition of their commitment to the children of our community\, the Dallas CASA Children’s Council will honor Rosewood with the Caroline Rose Hunt Cherish the Children Award. Inspired by Mrs. Hunt and her constant dedication to the most vulnerable in our city\, Rosewood Corporation and the Rosewood Foundation have been supporters of Dallas CASA for many years\, making an impact on the lives of Dallas children through consistent and generous support. \nThe Cherish the Children luncheon raises funds for Dallas CASA by auctioning artfully-designed\, one-of-a-kind children’s chairs and furnishings. Proceeds are used to support the volunteer advocates who help abused children find safe\, permanent and loving homes. \nWe will also welcome guest speaker Steve Pemberton\, the bestselling author of A Chance in the World\, his heartbreaking memoir of a childhood in foster care recently released as a feature film.
