For Morgan Bywaters, 28, volunteering as an advocate at Dallas CASA felt like the right fit. A member of the Junior League of Dallas and nonprofit employee, Bywaters values the direct connection she’s able to make with children. Now, working her third case in three years, Bywaters knows she’s found the right fit.

Why did you decide to become a Dallas CASA volunteer?

It’s pretty simple – I do it to make a difference. I want the children I serve to have the absolute best chance at a positive future.

What do you tell someone considering becoming a volunteer?

My pitch is always that there are lots of things you can do with your volunteer time, but only Dallas CASA provides this much return on investment.

What’s the hardest part of being a volunteer?

I am part of probably the darkest year in the lives of the children I serve. That’s not something I take lightly.

And working within the system can also be frustrating. But with Dallas CASA pushing, we can move things along and get a resolution for children.

What have you learned by being a Dallas CASA volunteer?

Dallas CASA taught me the beauty of reunification. Reuniting with family really is in the best interest of the children we serve, and so whatever we can do to support families becomes really important.

And what’s the best part of being a volunteer?

That one is easy – the children!
