Alaina and Natalie had witnessed drug abuse and domestic violence. They lived with relatives and then in foster care. They had experienced psychological trauma, eating difficulties and had to be medicated to stabilize their moods.
But now they had Nana. While Nana had permanent custody of the girls, all three longed for an adoption to make them a forever family.
“These sweet girls were afraid they would be taken out of their Nana’s house any day and kept asking me when they were going to have to leave,” Rebecca said. “They got nervous every time a child welfare professional would come to the house because they thought they were going to be removed again.
Once again, Rebecca was by their side and began advocating that adoption would give them the peace of mind and permanency they needed. After another year of work, the dream came true. At 4 and 6, the girls were adopted by Nana. As they left the courthouse, they waved to Rebecca and said “Bye, bye! Now you can go help other little girls.”
“Yep, I sure teared up,” Rebecca said.

On North Texas Giving Day today, Communities Foundation of Texas matches a percentage of every donation North Texans make to their favorite charities. For $1,910 per year, Dallas CASA can provide training and supervision for an advocate to help an abused child have a safe and permanent home. In 2015 on North Texas Giving Day, Dallas CASA supporters donated more than $80,000 to Dallas CASA, helping us serve more of North Texas’ most vulnerable children with one constant, caring adult looking out for each of them.
Children like Alaina and Natalie need our help and protection, and we need your help to make that possible. Visit North Texas Giving Day today to donate.
